Veronique, can you introduce yourself and Island Reveries?

I am originally from Quimper.

It is thanks to an association from Bellil that I discovered stained glass by the Tiffany method, then lead stained glass. I then became interested in the technique of Fusing and Thermoforming. Faced with the complexity of these processes, I decided to follow quality training at CERFAV (Centre Européen de Recherches et de Formations aux Arts Verriers) in Moselle. After many training courses, I invested in a kiln, organized my workshop and I now showcase my work that combines creativity and technique in Sauzon.

How did you become a full-fledged resident?

I got to know Belle-île during a vacation 22 years ago. I fell in love with the island so much that I kept coming back year after year. I settled there permanently already more than 10 years ago.

What do you like best about Belle-Île?

For me who loves nature and less city life, I am in heaven, I love the variety of landscapes of the island; Disadvantages I do not find any…Even storms do not make me change my mind! To recharge my batteries, I like to go for a walk from the Semaphore of Er Hastellic to the Pointe des Poulains and, when the season allows it, to enjoy a nice plate of barnacles with a glass of good white wine!

What is your daily “eco-gesture” to preserve Belle-Île?

Respecting the island by sorting waste in your daily life is a given. Overall the island is very clean. At certain times of the year, I deplore seeing handkerchiefs on the paths.

Your advice, to visitors of a day as well as those of a lifetime?

For those of a day, I will tell them: To have a beautiful overview of Belle-île you must stay there at least 2 nights, the island is very large and the remarkable sites are numerous and varied. Let our tourists become aware that this nature is fragile and that an island has its problems in terms of waste and water.

For those of a lifetime, it would be: For those who want to make the choice to live year-round on the island, you should know that insularity can sometimes pose problems for people who are city dwellers at heart. But if you are very close to nature and you know how to occupy yourself with activities and leisure activities, then it is only happiness!

What is your favorite season?

Autumn is for me the most beautiful season with a very soft light and still beautiful days, it is also the return to calm. Through my work with glass, stained glass and painting, I am very attached to light.
