Here is a selection of itineraries to enjoy a cycling vacation according to your desires: how about a family ride in contact with nature on the wild coast? Are you spending a vacation with your lover or friends? An easy and relaxed walk from Le Palais to the charming port of Sauzon awaits you! More athletic? Discover the climbs and descents that line the paths between Bangor and Locmaria!

#1 Locmaria-Port Coton, the family walk

Discovery of the beaches, Bangor and its wild coast

You have the whole day ahead of you? Set out to conquer two picturesque villages, a wild beach and the largest lighthouse on Belle-île! Starting from Locmaria, the Locmaria-Bangor route, marked in green on the tourist map will take you to the Aiguilles de Port Coton on a relatively flat route. This route will take you through the picturesque town of Bangor, its terraces and its small church. This walk is perfect for families with children. Despite a relatively long distance, about 18 km round trip, the youngest ones love this route thanks to the diversity of its landscapes, as Yohan Lucas, a cycling enthusiast, resident of Locmaria and manager of Locmaria Cycle explains to us:

How wonderful, the little ones don’t see the time pass! They discover two small, authentic, wilderness towns. If you have small children, there is a possibility to shorten the ride by stopping at Kérel beach.

 

From Bangor, a mere 10-minute detour will take you to Kérel, one of the most beautiful beaches on the wild coast. Still have some energy left? Take the red route back to Port Coton. There you will discover two sumptuous sites:

#2 Le Palais-Sauzon, An easy walk

From one port to another!

The blue Le Palais-Sauzon route is ideal for a day trip with friends or a couple. The small roads and paths in the north of the island do not have any particular difficulty. The gentle slopes and roads away from the main highway will lead you to the picturesque port of Sauzon.

It is one of the most beautiful fishing and yachting harbors in Southern Brittany! Let yourself be enchanted by its narrow streets and colorful houses so typically belliloises!

Along the pretty croisette, the restaurants and bars of Sauzon will allow you to refuel and discover local specialties: barnacles, oysters of Belle-île, Lamb of the sea, or the beer produced in Belle-île, the Morgat! Remember to book your table at the restaurant in advance, Sauzon is popular, especially in season.

After lunch, you can continue your cycling adventure with a passage through the Pointe des Poulains. Starting from the Port of Sauzon, the green marked circuit towards the Poulains will take you there in about 25 minutes, through the dirt roads

#3 The paths and roads of Locmaria and Bangor

Mountain bike, VTC or Gravel enthusiast?

The Bellilois paths will delight lovers of steep climbs! Following the tracks of the tractors, you will explore one of the most rugged places of Belle-île, the Donnant valley. A loop passing through the hamlets of Keroyant, Kerhuel and Ty Nehue offers a superb route where paths and small roads follow each other on the borders of the communes of Sauzon and Bangor. This loop will show you varied and magnificent landscapes: wooded valleys, fields where rabbits and hares peacefully gambol, and the dunes of Donnant which are among the highest in Brittany!

Details of the route Keroyant, Kerhuel, Ty Nehue: 3.55 and 45 m of elevation gain

From this loop, you have the possibility to jointhe purple route to reach the beach of Donnant, a breathtaking natural site and one of the best surf spots in Brittany! With the purple route, you can also go to the port of Sauzon and the Pointe des Poulains. Another possibility, the red route towards Bangor and the Needles of Port-Coton.

Do you have a nice racing bike?

The coastal route between Le Palais and Locmaria will get your Watts out! This route lined with bumps, will take you to the great sandy beaches of Belle-île: Bordardoué, Grands Sables, Port Andro. The sumptuous views of the ocean are endless. Be careful though, some descents are dangerous.
