Belle-Ile in autumn

Autumn or rather Indian summer in Belle-île-en-Mer!
The favorite season of many inhabitants and visitors with a certain calm restored and the pleasure of still long days in a still very soft atmosphere of the achievements of the summer.
On the wild coast, as towards Port Kerlédan, at the Needles of Port Coton, at Baluden, at the Pointe du Skeul, the clumps of foliage of the oval-leafed Statices take on red tones waking up the gray of the rocky plateau. Often mixed with Statica, its umbels turning red, the Sea Fennel also takes on its autumn colors…
The largest of the Breton islands unveils its assets in autumn, the landscapes and smells are again admirable!

Autumn or the other

Indian summer in Belle-île !

When the moor puts on its autumn coat, the landscape invites a soft reverie in which the sounds and colors of summer still resonate…

Sounds, scents, colors

When Nature awakens our senses

Until October one can observe flora on large areas of the Donnant Dune and a little on that of Vazen, including the Aster linosyris, an Armorican subspecies. This late-blooming plant offers its small yellow flowers in balls from late August to late October or even early November. Micro-endemic to Morbihan, it is regionally protected. It can also be found on the Rhuys peninsula.

The moors of Belle-île still form sets with varied colors, especially in Er Hastellig where the yellow of the Gorse of Le Gall contrasts with the pink of the Wandering Heaths and the rusty tones of the withered Ashy and Hairy Heaths.

And, we don’t forget to breathe in the subtle scent of the moor!

Fauna and Flora

You have an appointment!

On the wild coast, such as towards Port Kerlédan, at the Needles of Port Coton, at Baluden, at the Point of Skeul, the clumps of foliage of the oval-leafed Statica take on red tones waking up the gray of the rocky plateau. Often mixed with Statica, its umbels turning red, Sea Fennel also takes on its fall colors.

On the cliffs, the humidity of the nights accentuates the orange of the lichens Xanthoria parietina.

As for the fauna, the return to the calm of autumn allows us to observe birds that seem to be more numerous on the coastal lawns or cliffs: Herring Gulls, Red-billed Caws, Great Ravens, Jackdaws. On the other hand, migratory birds such as Brown Gulls and Clumped Wheatears have left us. Wild rabbits and pheasants can be surprised at the bend of a path!
