First, we will reconstruct the appearance of Life on our planet as well as the major stages of its evolution. Then we will look at the basic building blocks of living beings, cells: What are they made of? How are they different from inanimate matter? How do they communicate? How do they reproduce? How does DNA control their functioning and evolution? Finally, we will draw on the latest developments in our scientific knowledge to shed light on a few crucial questions: Can Life appear everywhere provided that the conditions are met? Can we see living beings as ultra-sophisticated mechanisms? Is humanity capable of profoundly modifying their nature?
