COMPLETE. In 1859, the Minister of the Navy decided to build 135 semaphores on the coasts of France based on the same plan. In 1860, the Navy approved the construction of 4 semaphores around the coast of Belle-Île. Erected the following year, these semaphores are those of Talut, Er-Hastellic, Arzic and Taillefer. Today, Talut is now the only semaphore in operation on Belle-Île. Taillefer and Arzic are private properties. As for Er-Hastellic, it is possible to see its ruins near the Apothicairerie. Unlike these 3 semaphores, the silhouette of the Talut was modernized in 1987. Committed to a desire to effectively complete the surveillance of the maritime approaches to our Territory, the French Navy decided in 2022 that the Talut semaphore would be on standby 24/7, 365 days a year.
