A small fishing port ... The most beautiful in southern Brittany! Sauzon, a small fishing port, located northwest of Belle-ile. Composed of white houses with colored shutters interspersed with alleys that are immortalized in their works by painters and photographers because of its particular charm, its pastel-hued colors and the long ria more than a kilometer long that goes up towards the valley. Sauzon means "Saxon" The village was probably created by emigrants from Great Britain, in the first centuries of our era. The village, in homage to King Louis-Philippe, will take the name of Port Louis from 1841 to 1895. The road which borders the estuary bypasses the small anchorage of Pen Prad and leads to the charming square of the Saint Nicolas church. Well sheltered from the prevailing winds, the port hosted the first fish canning factories, from 1843. Arranged to accommodate yachting, it retains berths for a few fishing boats, the products of which are offered for sale on the quay. A lively port in summer In summer, it is an active town entirely turned towards the sea to the rhythm of the tides. In the evening, barges and boaters stroll along the quays lined with restaurants, creperies, shops ... The atmosphere is often incomparably sweet. Out of season, when the confused and good-natured hubbub of summer goes away, the autumn sun cuts out shapes and brings out the pastel hue of the houses, there is a relationship to time that found nowhere else.
